Dead Set Babes :: Freya’s Scowl

As part of a birthday group I’m taking part in this year, I received a
gorgeous custom bottle of polish from Deadset Babes that was inspired by my
perpetual kitty, Freya.

Freya’s Scowl is a glitter topper with translucent matte white hexes,
iridescent squares and some shifting and shimmering base glitters which are
rather hard to describe. It had great glitter distribution without the need for
fishing, and I applied two coats for this mani over black, one dabbed and one just
brushed on, with a generous amount of top coat.

I’m itching to try this one out on a nude/beige base to mimic Freya’s actual
colouring.  There’s so much going on with this polish, just when I think I’ve seen all there is to see with the polish, I’d move my fingers and BAM more lush sparkle to lose myself in.

Deadset Babes polish can be purchased from their store at http://www.deadsetbabes.com/

What’s In-Die Box May 2014 Swatches :: True Bloody Beauty!

PART 2 – THE SWATCHES*** Spoiler Alert ***

If you haven’t received your WIDB yet, and want the contents to remain a surprise, you may want to avert your eyes now!

The theme for the May What’s In-Die Box was True Blood, in homage to the upcoming last season of HBO’s True Blood series.  The brands participating this month were Peita’s PolishGlam PolishLilypad LacquerDead Set Babes and for the first time, Femme Fatale Cosmetics.Tonight I’m sharing with you some swatches which I didn’t have the time (or the sunshine) to do with my previous post.  If you’re after more information about the polishes, and in-the-bottle shots, check out my first post here.

True Bloody Beauty

Femme Fatale Cosmetics – Sookie

Definitely the most feminine polish out of the bunch this month, Femme Fatale’s creation is a sheer nude shimmer-splosion with a delicate pink shimmer, generous amount of sheer golden flakes and just a hint of holo glitter, and I’m reminded of Sookie’s bursts of fairy fire.  Generally I’m not a fan of  don’t prefer sheers on general, but I can definitely see myself wearing this again as it was so delicate and shimmery.

Peita’s Polish – All flavour No bite

This shimmery cool red is chock full of glitter dust and fires off the occasional flash of fuschia amongst the glitters (but this was under a lighted magnifying glass!).  It has great depth and applied like a dream too, with one of the smoothest finishes I’ve seen in a while.

Glam Polish – Ciao Bitches

Wow.  Even in the shade, this polish inspired by the character Lafayette Reynolds has so much fabulous it hurts.  This grey/black based holo has all manner of different coloured rainbow holo glitters in it.  I’m not exaggerating either, as I was jotting down my notes at my desk in my little computer cave, with block out curtains except for a 20cm gap allowing the morning light in through frosted glass and security screens, this polish was still sparkling like mad.  This polish is a wee bit thirsty, but we all know rainbows love to get wet and I would recommend a second coat of topcoat of Ciao Bitches to give you a nice even look in low light.

Dead Set Babes – Eric in Chains

This super shiny silver linear holo from Dead Set Babes is a Dead Set Blinder!  I applied two coats to banish the VNL, and Eric stays a lovely chrome silver until that light makes it shoot those holo rainbows we love so much.

Dead Set Babes also included a sample of their new vinyl nail decals, with nine blood red vampire lip decals so I tried one out on my swatch.  They were stapled to the card, if you didn’t discover it yet, go digging through your box!

The only thing I was disappointed about was that it didn’t come with an actual Eric, in chains, for me to have my way with.  My wicked, wicked, way. 😉

Lilypad Lacquer – I love the Smell of Nail Polish in the Morning

This polish was a little bit of a surprise, as the flakes were quite prominent in the bottle, but were more subtle on the nail.  The metallic blue base contains some scattered holo glitters and large iridescent flakes.  These were more pronounced in the bottle, but blend in well on the nail to give off some super shine.

Next month’s What’s In-Die Box is available for pre-order from Peita’s Polish now for $49.95 until 12pm on Saturday 31 May.  The theme is 1st Anniversary Holo Box, and 10 lucky boxes will find a one of a kind polish made by one of the brands.

What was your favourite from this month?

What’s In-Die Box May 2014 :: A monthly box of polish goodness

*** Spoiler Alert ***

If you haven’t received your WIDB yet, and want the contents to remain a surprise, you may want to avert your eyes now!

The theme for the May What’s In-Die Box was True Blood, in homage to the upcoming last season of HBO’s True Blood series.  The brands participating this month were Peita’s Polish, Glam Polish, Lilypad Lacquer, Dead Set Babes and for the first time, Femme Fatale Cosmetics.
Time for the Bottle Piccies!!

What did the brands have in store for us this month?  As usual, I will try to describe the polishes as best I can.  I haven’t had time to do swatches tonight, and I’ve had some nasty breaks this past weekend.  I do plan on updating this post with swatch sticks and/or my 5-finger quickie swatch on Friday evening.
Peita’s Polish – All flavour No bite

All flavour No bite is a berry red shimmery glitter infused polish which was inspired by the beverage of choice by all vampires in Bon Temps, the synthetically nutritious True Blood.  The red jelly base has red, possibly a copper/gold glitter dust, a little touch of holo and some pink flakes.

Glam Polish – Ciao Bi#%$es

Ciao Bitches was based of the loveable Lafayette, and is a delicious shimmery rainbow glitter soup of fabulousness swimming around in a black almost purplish base and it really comes alive with some light.
Lilypad Lacquer – I love the smell of nail polish in the morning
I don’t actually like the smell of nail polish in the morning (and oh lordy painting my nails first thing, while I’m still half asleep?  My motor skills are terrible!)  but apparently Jason Stackhouse does!  I’m a little unsure how to describe this polish, as it’s quite bold.  The base is a bright blue metallic foil, with a generous serving of scattered holo glitters, and large iridescent flakes.  I can’t wait to see this one in full sunlight to see how much it punches me in the eye.
Dead Set Babes – Eric in Chains
I’ll take Eric any which way, in a suit, in a tracksuit, naked, tied up by ropes, not tied up at all…. but Dead Set Babes has brought him to us in chains this month, with a metallic silver foil linear holo, and possibly some small glass flecks (I kept getting distracted while staring at the linear holo with a lighted magnifying glass).  Eric in Chains also came with 9 bright red fanged lips vinyl nail decals.  I was hoping to try DSB’s vinyl nail decals soon, so I’m really happy a little sample was included with this polish.
Femme Fatale Cosmetics – Sookie
The inspiration for Femme Fatale’s contribution to this month’s box is self-explanatory, but I have to say it was a really pleasant surprise.  Sookie is a delicate and feminine polish, with a shimmery cream base with a pinkish shift and golden hued glass fleck.  The polish is quite sheer, and would be fantastic for a natural look, or to spice up another colour with a blast of fairy power.
What’s Coming Next Month?
June’s WIDB is a special Birthday edition, and is the first all holo box.  There is also some one of a kind polishes made by each brand which will be scattered amongst the boxes, so there will be some lucky people getting an extra surprise in their box next month.  What’s In-Die Box can be ordered from Peita’s Polish.  Unfortunately, my budget is going to prevent me buying next month’s box, but I did make it all the way through a year without skipping one!
Finally, Freya gave the True Blood What’s In-Die Box her scowl of approval.
Happy Polishing!

Dead Set Babes Swatch :: Drowned in Custard from the December 2014 What’s In-Die Box

It’s Easter weekend, and I’ve been ferreting around in my pictures folder on the computer and found a couple of manicures that I haven’t shared on my blog, so I’m going to throw one at you tonight!
Last month I recreated some nail art of Briemmara from Instagram, as part of her 1 year anniversary.  We had to recreate her first mani, which was yellow polish with a yellow and black feather feature nail.

I didn’t have any feathers so I tried to recreate it with polish (fairly unsuccessfully I might add).  I used Drowned in Custard by Dead Set Babes as my base (this was in the December 2013 What’s In-Die Box), with Covergirl Black Diamond and OPI Fiercely Fiona for the “feather”, then topped with Mud’s Polka Player.

AIPAS Weekly Challenge :: N or W Polishes :: Lilypad Lacquer Nothing Else Matter & Dead Set Babes Neutron Dance

Hidey ho!  For last week’s AIPAS challenge, the theme was polishes starting with N & W.
I decided to go with a double dose of N, using Lilypad Lacquer’s Nothing Else Matters from the November 2013 What’s In-Die Box.  I stopped to take a couple of swatch photos of this beauty.

On top I applied a glitter gradient using Dead Set Babes’s Neutron Dance, with maxed out the bling by glitter-bombing my ring finger for a feature nail.  Neutron Dance has a mix of different purple glitters, shiny and matte, with circles and hexes, plus a light smattering of holo glitter.
I love using holo undies for glitters!!  Pew Pew Pew Rainbows!!
Happy Polishing!!

Be My Valentine :: Deadset Babes Kickstart My Heart

I’m so late to blog about this, it’s becoming laughable, but life has powered on ahead of me the past few weeks and I’m struggling to keep up with everything, not just a nail art challenge.
The theme for this mani was Hearts.  I recently received the Love Games Trio from Deadset Babes, comprising of one of their best sellers, Lost in Love, together with two limited edition Valentine polishes Kickstart My Heart and Lost in Translation.
I did a glitter gradient using Kickstart My Heart over Sinful Colors’ Ruby Ruby, with a feature nail of OPI Goldeneye.  I stole some heart glitters from Lost in Love for the feature nail as well.

Kickstart My Heart is described as having red, black and white hearts, with sparkley red, silver metallic and black holographic glitter in a clear base.  While I think only a couple of red hearts made it to my nail, I was purposely trying to avoid the other coloured hearts for this look.  The polish has great glitter saturation, although some fishing would be needed for the hearts – which is usual for this sized glitter in most polishes.
I also used Deadset Babes’ topcoat for the first time with this mani, and I was very pleased with how it tamed the glitter.  I haven’t done a proper road test, but it was shiny, and seemed to dry quite quickly.  Well worth adding to your order to try it out.
Deadset Babes’ Valentines polishes are only available until tomorrow (or sold out), so if you like the look you’ll want to snap them up quickly!  You only have one day left.

Happy Polishing!

What’s In-Die Box December :: A month box of polish goodness

***SPOILER ALERT***

If you haven’t received your WITB yet, and want the contents to remain a surprise, you may want to avert your eyes now!
This month the theme for What’s In-Die Box was The Festive Season.  I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed, because I never am!  If you’ve been reading my blog since June, you’ll know that I’m definitely 100% a WIDB Fangirl.  Five limited edition polishes from a variety of Aussie Indie Brands each month?  Hell Yeah!  I would sign up for the yearly plan if they had one.  Enough gushing!
The line-up of brands for December’s box was Peita’s Polish, Glam Polish, Lilypad Lacquer, Powder Perfect and Deadset Babes.  The box had the usual info card, plus a cute little Christmas card, and a candy cane!

Time For the Piccies!!

What did our brands have in store for us this month?  As usual, I will try to describe the polishes as best I can.  I applied two coats of polish without base colour so you can see the polish as is.  I have quite a few bottle shots, and some nail and swatch sticks.  This post is pic heavy, and I am not sorry ;)Also, because of a rather nasty break on my normal swatching hand, Miss Right is taking the lead role for the first time.

Deadset Babes – Drowned in Custard

When I first saw the name of this polish on the menu card (the info card which comes with every box) I was scratching my head.  I had no idea what this one was going to be like.  I unwrapped the bottle and instantly scoffed down the mini pack of jellybeans that it came with (surprise, surprise the jelly beans didn’t make it home).
Drowned in Custard is a creamy pastel yellow cream with mix of green, gold, red, orange and holo glitters with I *think* what might be a pink/gold shimmery dust.  It is a unique mix, and the photos of my nails don’t really do it justice.  This polish is absolutely freaking perfect for topping plum pudding nail art, which is now something that I’m going to have to do!
Powder Perfect – She’s gone orna-mental

Holy Robin’s egg, Jingle Batman!  This blue jelly has so much glitter in it, you would swear someone threw a whole bauble factory into a woodchipper, then mixed it in to this polish.  It has blue, gold, purple and who knows what other glitters.  I’m not going to even try to work out what they are, but I really love the combo.  It’s just so BLINGY!
With two coats to full glitter coverage, this dries a little rough and is a thirsty devil.  Absolutely gorgeous and well worth soaking it in top coat 🙂

Lilypad Lacquer – Sweet Baby Jesus

Sweet Baby J is a sheer holo with a possible pink/blue shift and glass flecks.  It is so hard to describe!  It’s a shiny, shimmery, reflective, delicately ethereal light linear holo.  I haven’t layered this polish over a colour, because my WIDB reviews never involve undies (take that however you want).  I will be revisiting this polish soon to see how it looks over undies.

I have a little bit of a story with this one.  I ripped open my WIDB hoping for some kind of candy cane or lolly as I was having a very long and boring Friday at work, and it was a Christmas themed box, so you never know!  (Candy cane did not make it home).  When I saw the name of this polish on the menu card, I knew I had to share it with one of the ladies I work with.  You may have seen her nails on Instagram as usually when I show her my new polish she’s cracking that sucker open and putting it on her nails (she’s lucky I’m okay with that!). One of her commonly used phrases is “Sweet Baby Jesus!” so I knew she’d get a kick out of the polish.  I passed it on over to her and she gushed and had a coat on before I could say “check out the name”.  Once she saw the name she got so excited, and showed whoever was around and even took a photo with her phone.

Glam Polish – You’re a mean one Mr Grinch!

The stand out, brightest polish of the bunch, Glam’s You’re a mean one Mr Grinch is a neon slime green with shimmery gold dust and holo.  This is a bright and oh so fun polish.  By the way, if you pop this baby under a black light or UV light, prepare for burns to your cornea!

Peita’s Polish – Pinklebells

Pinklebells is a clear base with so much glitter it is almost opaque in two coats!  While the polish is mainly pink, there are gorgeous holo, purple and gold flashes and together it is just so pretty.  It has a sand texture when dry so no doubt you can choose if you’d like to wear it like a liquid sand, or let it soak up a few layers of topcoat. I have a feeling this would look fantastic as a glitter gradient on black or other dark complimentary colour.

!!!More Photos!!!

January’s theme is based around the Muppets!!  I can’t wait to see what goodies they have in store for us next month.
