Unboxing the Bellabox May 2015 Sugar Fix subscription box

I’ve been receiving the Bellabox subscription for quite some time, ever since my buddy Ruth got me a gift subscription as a gift.  I haven’t really done an in-depth “unboxing” before.  Mostly due to a lack of time, but also because my previous blog was centred on nail polish and I felt a little funny doing non-polish related posts.  I decided that I would review this box as my first official Gauche Gal review!

Shades of Phoenix Mystery Mani-Fest :: Rockabilly Pin Up Nail Art

Press Sample

What’s buzzin, cuzzin? I’ve got a groovy new mystery box from Shades of Phoenix to share with you today.

The Mystery Mani-Fest pack is a themed “manicure in a box”, available monthly from Shades of Phoenix.  The box contains two midi sized bottles of never before seen polish, together with plenty of nail art goodies to match the theme; more than enough to create a nail art loaded mani with something different on each nail.

Rockabilly nail art using Shades of Phoenix Classy Chassis and Back Seat Bingo

May’s Mystery Mani-Fest pack was themed Rockabilly Pin-up, and came with a gorgeous glittery holo blue, Back Seat Bingo and a shimmery glittered red jelly, Classy Chassis.  There was also a half size orange cuticle stick (which can also double as a dotting tool!), striping tape, and two ziplock baggies filled with a variety of acrylic bows (with bling and no bling), silver and gold studs in a variety of shapes, fimo slices of roses and winged hearts, and a generous amount of heart, bow/butterfly and skull and crossbones glitters.

What’s In-Die Box November 2014 :: Unboxing Video and Swatch Photos

Before I hit my internet drought last week, I had filmed my first ever “unboxing”, of the November 2014 Pokemon themed What’s In-Die Box.

~*~ SPOILER ALERT ~*~
If you haven’t yet received your November WIDB and want to keep it a secret, look away now!  Close your eyes and throw your phone against the wall.  Flip that laptop screen down!  Run screaming down to the local store and pick me up a packet of Burger Rings while you’re there!

VIDEO UNBOXING

Don’t worry, I won’t put your head through the window! 😉
Unfortunately there is no narration on the video, as that was something I was planning on doing once I had finished stripping out the background noises from the furkids, Manbeast, and Manbeast’s music. I’ve only just had my internet fixed last night, so I’ve popped the music into the video, and am waiting for Youtube to upload the video as I type everything else.

Time for Bottle Shots

 Arcane Lacquer – Glooms Vileplume
Bella Belle Nail Couture – Vivillon

Lilypad Lacquer – Tornadus
Peita’s Polish – Pikachu

Sayuri Nail Lacquer – #134
In order of the swatch sticks below:-
Sayuri Nail Lacquer – #134 :: A lovely light blue shimmery creme with blue iridescent square glitter, and smaller (pinkish?) toned iridescent glitters.
Lilypad Lacquer – Tornadus :: a medium green creme with purple, green and holo gold small glitters, and holo green shards.
Arcane Lacquer – Glooms Vileplume :: this magenta pink has a blue sheen and possible gold holo or iridescent microflakes.  I found this polish hard to capture in the video, and on camera, as its polish magic is elegantly understated.
Bella Belle Nail Couture – Vivillon :: a black jelly packed with a rainbow of glitters, plus some larger pink holo hexes and square glitters.
Peita’s Polish – Pikachu :: a sheer shimmery silver micro iridescent holo soup, with red, yellow and lemon circle glitters, smaller red circle glitters and bronze hex glitters, complete with pokemon themed bottle bow.
Two coats on clear swatch sticks

Patented 5 Finger Lazy WIDB Swatch
I have to say that both the Arcane Lacquer and Peita Polish shades were the most hard wearing, with no chips or wear after several days, with the Sayuri not far behind for chip resistance.
Pre-orders are open for the December What’s In-Die Box until 29 November 2014 from http://www.whatsindiebox.com/ and the theme is Aussie Christmas.
Happy Polishing!!

What’s In-Die Box May 2014 Swatches :: True Bloody Beauty!

PART 2 – THE SWATCHES*** Spoiler Alert ***

If you haven’t received your WIDB yet, and want the contents to remain a surprise, you may want to avert your eyes now!

The theme for the May What’s In-Die Box was True Blood, in homage to the upcoming last season of HBO’s True Blood series.  The brands participating this month were Peita’s PolishGlam PolishLilypad LacquerDead Set Babes and for the first time, Femme Fatale Cosmetics.Tonight I’m sharing with you some swatches which I didn’t have the time (or the sunshine) to do with my previous post.  If you’re after more information about the polishes, and in-the-bottle shots, check out my first post here.

True Bloody Beauty

Femme Fatale Cosmetics – Sookie

Definitely the most feminine polish out of the bunch this month, Femme Fatale’s creation is a sheer nude shimmer-splosion with a delicate pink shimmer, generous amount of sheer golden flakes and just a hint of holo glitter, and I’m reminded of Sookie’s bursts of fairy fire.  Generally I’m not a fan of  don’t prefer sheers on general, but I can definitely see myself wearing this again as it was so delicate and shimmery.

Peita’s Polish – All flavour No bite

This shimmery cool red is chock full of glitter dust and fires off the occasional flash of fuschia amongst the glitters (but this was under a lighted magnifying glass!).  It has great depth and applied like a dream too, with one of the smoothest finishes I’ve seen in a while.

Glam Polish – Ciao Bitches

Wow.  Even in the shade, this polish inspired by the character Lafayette Reynolds has so much fabulous it hurts.  This grey/black based holo has all manner of different coloured rainbow holo glitters in it.  I’m not exaggerating either, as I was jotting down my notes at my desk in my little computer cave, with block out curtains except for a 20cm gap allowing the morning light in through frosted glass and security screens, this polish was still sparkling like mad.  This polish is a wee bit thirsty, but we all know rainbows love to get wet and I would recommend a second coat of topcoat of Ciao Bitches to give you a nice even look in low light.

Dead Set Babes – Eric in Chains

This super shiny silver linear holo from Dead Set Babes is a Dead Set Blinder!  I applied two coats to banish the VNL, and Eric stays a lovely chrome silver until that light makes it shoot those holo rainbows we love so much.

Dead Set Babes also included a sample of their new vinyl nail decals, with nine blood red vampire lip decals so I tried one out on my swatch.  They were stapled to the card, if you didn’t discover it yet, go digging through your box!

The only thing I was disappointed about was that it didn’t come with an actual Eric, in chains, for me to have my way with.  My wicked, wicked, way. 😉

Lilypad Lacquer – I love the Smell of Nail Polish in the Morning

This polish was a little bit of a surprise, as the flakes were quite prominent in the bottle, but were more subtle on the nail.  The metallic blue base contains some scattered holo glitters and large iridescent flakes.  These were more pronounced in the bottle, but blend in well on the nail to give off some super shine.

Next month’s What’s In-Die Box is available for pre-order from Peita’s Polish now for $49.95 until 12pm on Saturday 31 May.  The theme is 1st Anniversary Holo Box, and 10 lucky boxes will find a one of a kind polish made by one of the brands.

What was your favourite from this month?
Happy Polishing!

What’s In-Die Box May 2014 :: A monthly box of polish goodness

*** Spoiler Alert ***

If you haven’t received your WIDB yet, and want the contents to remain a surprise, you may want to avert your eyes now!

The theme for the May What’s In-Die Box was True Blood, in homage to the upcoming last season of HBO’s True Blood series.  The brands participating this month were Peita’s Polish, Glam Polish, Lilypad Lacquer, Dead Set Babes and for the first time, Femme Fatale Cosmetics.
Time for the Bottle Piccies!!

What did the brands have in store for us this month?  As usual, I will try to describe the polishes as best I can.  I haven’t had time to do swatches tonight, and I’ve had some nasty breaks this past weekend.  I do plan on updating this post with swatch sticks and/or my 5-finger quickie swatch on Friday evening.
Peita’s Polish – All flavour No bite

All flavour No bite is a berry red shimmery glitter infused polish which was inspired by the beverage of choice by all vampires in Bon Temps, the synthetically nutritious True Blood.  The red jelly base has red, possibly a copper/gold glitter dust, a little touch of holo and some pink flakes.

Glam Polish – Ciao Bi#%$es

Ciao Bitches was based of the loveable Lafayette, and is a delicious shimmery rainbow glitter soup of fabulousness swimming around in a black almost purplish base and it really comes alive with some light.
Lilypad Lacquer – I love the smell of nail polish in the morning
I don’t actually like the smell of nail polish in the morning (and oh lordy painting my nails first thing, while I’m still half asleep?  My motor skills are terrible!)  but apparently Jason Stackhouse does!  I’m a little unsure how to describe this polish, as it’s quite bold.  The base is a bright blue metallic foil, with a generous serving of scattered holo glitters, and large iridescent flakes.  I can’t wait to see this one in full sunlight to see how much it punches me in the eye.
Dead Set Babes – Eric in Chains
I’ll take Eric any which way, in a suit, in a tracksuit, naked, tied up by ropes, not tied up at all…. but Dead Set Babes has brought him to us in chains this month, with a metallic silver foil linear holo, and possibly some small glass flecks (I kept getting distracted while staring at the linear holo with a lighted magnifying glass).  Eric in Chains also came with 9 bright red fanged lips vinyl nail decals.  I was hoping to try DSB’s vinyl nail decals soon, so I’m really happy a little sample was included with this polish.
Femme Fatale Cosmetics – Sookie
The inspiration for Femme Fatale’s contribution to this month’s box is self-explanatory, but I have to say it was a really pleasant surprise.  Sookie is a delicate and feminine polish, with a shimmery cream base with a pinkish shift and golden hued glass fleck.  The polish is quite sheer, and would be fantastic for a natural look, or to spice up another colour with a blast of fairy power.
What’s Coming Next Month?
June’s WIDB is a special Birthday edition, and is the first all holo box.  There is also some one of a kind polishes made by each brand which will be scattered amongst the boxes, so there will be some lucky people getting an extra surprise in their box next month.  What’s In-Die Box can be ordered from Peita’s Polish.  Unfortunately, my budget is going to prevent me buying next month’s box, but I did make it all the way through a year without skipping one!
Finally, Freya gave the True Blood What’s In-Die Box her scowl of approval.
Happy Polishing!

What’s In-Die Box April 2014 :: A monthly box of polish goodness

****SPOILER ALERT****

If you haven’t received your WIDB yet, and want the contents to remain a surprise, you may want to avert your eyes now!
The theme for the April What’s In-Die Box was All Things Mythical and Fantasy.  There were some interesting inspiration pics, and I had absolutely no idea what to expect this month.  The brands participating this month were Peita’s Polish, Glam Polish, Lilypad Lacquer, Mckfresh Nail Attire and Bella Belle Nail Couture.

Time for the Bottle Piccies!!

What did the brands have in store for us this month?  As usual, I will try to describe the polishes as best I can.  For each swatch, I applied three coats of the polish without base colour, plus topcoat so you can see the polish as is.
Glam Polish – Dancing in the Moonlight
Dancing in the Moonlight is a shimmery blurple foil, with an almost coarse holo microglitter, small holo blue glitters which is more pronounced out of strong, directly light, and possibly a pinkish/purple microflake or shimmer.  The first coat was a little patchy, with two coats to opacity.  I added a third coat since every other finger was getting 3!  This polish really comes alive after topcoat.
Mckfresh Nail Attire – Lady Scales
Lady Scales is a delicious mix of an insane amount of different glitters.  I could identify iridescent and pastel matte hexes in lilac, mint and blue, and I’m honestly stumped as to what the awesome sauce of shimmery glitter goodness contains but as a guess I would say some green, holo and ahhhh I have no idea!
Lilypad Lacquer – Siren of the Sea
Clearly the brightest polish of the box, Siren of the Sea is a vibrant fuchsia pink jelly with blue/purple iridescent shimmer, possibly flakes, and small scatter holo glitters.  Two coats will get you to near if not full opacity, although I found the formula a little thinner than the other Lilypads I own, and it works well to build up the layers of magic in this polish.
Peita’s Polish – Unicorn Whisper
Unicorn Whisper is an almost grey silver whisper in bottle, and on first coat is quite sheer and I think easily used as a topper.  I got out the magnifying glass for this one and I’m still not quite sure what magic was put into this bottle!  There were different sized clear/iridescent/silverish-white glitters, with pale lilac squares, a smattering of holo purple glitters and lots of different silvery greys.  With three coats there is still visible nail line, so you may want to slip some subtle undies on.
Bella Belle – Dragon’s Breath
The sheer black jelly of Dragon’s Breath is great for building up depth, especially to show off the red diamond glitters, which are joined by red holo hexes, and a coppery gold glitter.  I applied two normal coats, and the third coat was dabbed for this swatch.

What’s Coming Next Month?

May’s theme is TRUE BLOOD, as the very last season of HBO’s True Blood will be aired this year.  So many wants, and so many great characters that would be perfect in polish form (although to be honest, this chick is not a Sookie fan).  The brands participating next month are Glam Polish, Lilypad Lacquer, Peita’s Polish, Dead Set Babes and for the first time in the WIDB, Femme Fatale Cosmetics.
Next month’s What’s In-Die Box can be purchased from Peita’s Polish’s Big Cartel Store.  You can add extras to your WIDB from Peita’s range, and if you haven’t already, I recommend grabbing a bottle of Quick! Gloss Me Up!, which was the fast drying topcoat I used for my swatch tonight.

****UPDATE****

I have swatched Peita’s Polish Unicorn Whipser over four different base colours, so you can get a better idea of what is going on in that mysterious polish.  I tested 2 coats of Unicorn Whipser over Orly Liquid Vinyl, Sally Hansen Blue It, Max Factor Pinkandescence and Essence Dopey, and the results are below.

What’s In-Die Box March 2014 :: A monthly box of polish goodness

*** Spoiler Alert ***

If you haven’t received your WIDB yet, and want the contents to remain a surprise, you may want to avert your eyes now!

The theme for the March What’s In-Die Box was Superheroes and Villains, and I was eagerly waiting to see how the different characters were portrayed through polish.  I wasn’t disappointed!  The brands participating this month were Peita’s Polish, Glam Polish, Lilypad Lacquer, Arcane Lacquer and Sayuri Nail Lacquer.

Time for the Bottle Piccies!!

What did the brands have in store for us this month?  As usual, I will try to describe the polishes as best I can.  For each swatch, I applied two coats of the polish without base colour, plus topcoat so you can see the polish as is, except for the glitter topper.

Peita’s Polish – Keep Calm I’m Wonder Woman
Keep Calm I’m Wonder Woman is a clear based glitter topper with copious amounts of red, white, blue and gold glitters in a variety of shapes from tiny glitters, squares, hexes and white and holo gold stars. Imagine if Wonder Woman accidentally dropped her kit into a woodchipper instead of the laundry hamper.
I did two coats of Keep Calm over the Lilypad offering (described later).  There is an awesome glitter payload, which is common for Peita’s Polish.  As usual, the star glitters are shy, so you do need to fish a little.
Glam Polish – Poor Unfortunate Souls
Poor Unfortunate Souls was inspired by Ursula from The Little Mermaid.  This inky deep purple has a shimmery base with blue and purple holo glitters.  It was almost a one coater, and the colour is perfect for my skintone.  This one has definitely become a favourite.
Arcane Lacquer – Poison Ivy
Poison Ivy is a deep teal with some kind of awesome shimmery subtle glitter mix of red, possibly purple and iridescent glass flecks.  At least that’s what I think is in it. It doesn’t sound like much on paper, but the depth to this colour is amazing, and is another new favourite.
Sayuri Nail Lacquer – Harley Quinn
Harley Quinn is a white crelly base with black diamond glitters and possibly gunmetal grey (or very shiny black?) hex glitters, small red hexes and a dusting of golden scatter holo dust and has an almost peppery look while in the bottle.  Harley layers beautifully, and is opaque in two coats (no visible nail line!) and no additional fishing for the diamond glitters.
Lilypad Lacquer – Name’s Hades, Lord of the Dead, how ya doin?
Name’s Hades, Lord of the Dead, how ya doing? is a pastel blue with blue shimmer and light linear holo. This polish is heavily pigmented, and was almost opaque in one coat.
As usual, as this is a first night quickie review post, I have my 5-finger salute for you!  Stay tuned over the next week, as I will be using some of these polishes in some nail art.

What’s Coming Next Month?

April’s theme is All Things Mythical and Fantasy.  There’s so many things it could be!  Far to many to even try to guess what might be used for inspiration for this one.  The brands participating next month are Glam Polish, Lilypad Lacquer, Peita’s Polish, Bella Belle Nail Couture and Mckfresh Nail Attire.  The April What’s In-Die Box can be ordered from Peita’s Polish.

Moonstone Nail Polish Swatch :: Key Lime Pie from What’s In-Die Box February 2014

*** Spoiler Alert ***
February’s What’s In-Die Box was themed “Bakery Delights”, and over the coming days I will be sharing full manicures of each of the polishes that were in the box.  As usual, I have popped up a cheeky spoiler alert and a teaser black and white photo for those of you who haven’t received your box, and are still trying desperately to keep its contents a surprise.
Moonstone Nail Polish – Key Lime Pie
Key Lime Pie is the last polish left to share with you from February’s What’s In-Die Box.  This glitter topper from Moonstone Nail Polish captures the citrus feeling of a Key Lime Pie perfectly with its lime green, bright yellow, sheer pastel yellow and frosty sheer white hex and circle glitters in a variety of sizes, with a pinch of holo glitter dust.  Moonstone really packed in the glitters, so there was no fishing necessary, and the glitters dried fairly flat and only needed one layer of topcoat.  The up-close nail shot below is Key Lime Pie over MUD Meet Minty, which shows off the different type of glitters better.
I really wanted to amp up the key lime pie feel in this swatch, so my base is a gradient of Sinful Colors Snow Me White, Maybelleine Urban Lemon and Sinful Colors Innocent.  I then applied one normal, and one ultra thin coat of Key Lime Pie and topped with HK Girl topcoat.  It looks really summery and fresh.

The only thing that would make this more Key Lime-like would be lime scent!

Peita’s Polish Swatch :: Blueberry Bonanza from What’s In-Die Box February 2014

Peita’s Polish – Blueberry Bonanza
Blueberry Bonanza is not just your average pastel blue, and Peita’s Polish has captured the blueberry feel in this polish perfectly.  There are holo blurple and transparent iridescent blue hex glitters, purple and holo (or possibly holo purple) micro glitters, giving the base an almost peppery blueberry smoothie look.
I have to admit, when I first saw this polish amongst the other beauties as it was a little outshone by the others, and I don’t normally go for subtle glitters. Having worn it as a full mani however, it has become one of my favourites from this month’s box.  The blue went with my skintone well, and I loved the occasional flashes of the iridescent blue while I was working.

Pretty Pots Swatch :: Mintberry Macaron from What’s In-Die Box February 2014

*** Spoiler Alert ***

February’s What’s In-Die Box was themed “Bakery Delights”, and over the coming days I will be sharing full manicures of each of the polishes that were in the box.  As usual, I have popped up a cheeky spoiler alert and a teaser black and white photo for those of you who haven’t received your box, and are still trying desperately to keep its contents a surprise.

Pretty Pots – Mintberry Macaron
Mintberry Macaron is the multi-coloured mint green contribution from Pretty Pots.  The creamy pastel green base holds a lovely mix of pink, white and gold square glitters, yellow gold, lavender and periwinkle blue hex glitters, teal green stars and pink circle glitters.  The bottle also came with a baggie of additional stars, so I have added three on my ring fingers as a feature.  This polish was in Pretty Potts’ cute pink box with their elegant lady logo (pictured above).

I applied two coats on most nails, with a couple of nails receiving three coats to even out the sides due to my inattention while painting (I was watching a rather interesting movie, oops!).  There was some fishing involved for the stars and the circle glitters, but no more than usual for those types of glitters.  The polish was smooth and creamy, though I recommend waiting until your first layer is dry to ensure you’re not giving yourself baldspots with the second coat – we all know how larger glitters try to escape the nail while you’re trying to paint an even coat around them.I think this polish would be perfect for cute little cupcake or icecream nail art (hell yes, Sprinkles!!).  More food!  This What’s In-Die Box has been a battle of wills for me, I’ve been craving all sorts of bakery delights!  🙂

Nubbins!  Lightbox, no flash

Glam Polish Swatch :: Fairy Cakes from What’s In-Die Box February 2014

*** Spoiler Alert ***
February’s What’s In-Die Box was themed “Bakery Delights”, and over the coming days I will be sharing full manicures of each of the polishes that were in the box.  As usual, I have popped up a cheeky spoiler alert and a teaser black and white photo for those of you who haven’t received your box, and are still trying desperately to keep its contents a surprise.

.

Glam Polish – Fairy Cakes

Fairy Cakes is a delightful white based glitter polish with lashings of purple, periwinkle and pink hex glitters, tiny pinkish purple holo glitters that shimmer in the light, and ninja style white holographic hexes that jump out with a flash of rainbow before blending back into the background.
I applied two coats of Fairy Cakes and it layered beautifully, letting the glitters in the previous coat show through while being opaque enough to disguise my VNL.  Unfortunately, the ninjas were very sneaky sneaky and I wasn’t able to catch the holos on my swatch pics, but I did pick up a couple in the close up bottle shot.
As before, I have nubbins on my normal swatching hand, and not-so-nubbins on the ugly stepsister hand, so I’m showing you what it looks like on two lengths today.

Lilypad Lacquer Swatch :: Blackberry Beauty from What’s In-Die Box February 2014

Lilypad Lacquer – Blackberry Beauty

Blackberry Beauty is a deliciously complex berry purple sparkling shimmery mother flecking delight!  Yet again, Nicole has created a polish that is incredibly difficulty to describe.  The formula has great coverage, and only two coats are needed for full opacity.  I think due to the flecks and shimmer, the rich violet tones in the polish is muted a little to a dusky plum purple in the swatch photos – it is just so reflective that my poor little camera couldn’t cope. On the nail, and when you look deep in the bottle, the colour is slightly darker, and more berry purple toned.

The polish itself has a generous serving of glass flecks in a light ‘oil slick’ and small violet purple in a berry purple shimmery base with just a touch of holo dust.  It is a delicate fleck, and I think the best way to describe the polish is a Sugarplum Fairy smoothie.

Due to losing two nails on my normal swatch hand, I decided to give you swatches on both my little nubbins, and not-so-nubbins on ugly stepsister hand (the uncoordinated one where the ring finger refuses to bend in an attractive way).

Full sunlight, nubbins on my normal hand.  So short it makes me cry.
Full sunlight, ugly uncoordinated step-sister hand
Inside with flash, naughty normal nubbins again
What the glorious fleck!?!

I was provided with the February What’s In-Die Box for my honest review.
